Week 4: Multi-Touch Applications and Techniques

November 02 2009

This week we were introduced to multi-touch platforms. A recent UID graduate student and experience with Multi-touch platforms Ru Zarin demonstrated both hardware aspects and Flash development techniques to create Multi-touch applications. Here is a video diary of the progress and development I went though to build a Flash AS3 Multi-touch application.

Week 3: Mobile Interactions, with iphone Hardware.

October 29 2009

This third week of experience prototyping had us working with Tellart. Matt Cottam and Brian Hinch demonstrated how to use open source hardware and web software scripting to access certain functions and features of the iphone. We were given the task (actually 2 days) to design a future pet both a hardware prototype along with some software sketches that demonstrated various behaviours and attributes of our pet. My team mate and myself settled on a concept of a not so distant time where you can build your own pet and it would grow with you through software and hardware upgrades.

Week 2: RFID with Processing or Flash AS3.

October 29 2009

RFID is increasingly  being used for various logistic management applications. Furthermore its being also used to track products, people and animals. Although there are privacy concerns when we discuss RFID, it becomes useful to use  RFID tags into various Interaction design Prototypes. Today we wrote a couple of quick software sketches in Flash and Processing to see how Phidgets RFID (passive tags) hardware is implemented in each application. Here is my video diary of Week 2 Arduino and Phidgets.

Week 2: Phidgets, Arduino, and Everything In-Between.

October 11 2009

This weeks workshop has us sketching in hardware with Phidgets, and Arduino with Camille Moussette. It will be intriguing to see what we have to work through and come up with by the end of the week. What I’m planning to explore are physical/gestural interactions that control various types of media.

Week 1: Stop Motion Workshop

October 11 2009

Here is the first week of our experience prototyping course in stop motion animation. This tool is effective in creating quick and scenarios along with animated interface prototypes. A very talented motion artist/designer from Montreal named Julien Vallée taught us both practical and creative approaches in the art of stop motion animation and applying effective techniques to our interaction design scenarios and animations.

Experience Prototyping Intro

October 11 2009

The next five weeks have been scheduled with various Experience Prototyping workshops. The first week had us building skills in using stop Motion Animation to storyboard and build scenarios.

  • Week 1: Stop Motion w/ Julien Vallée
  • Week 2: Phidgets w/ Camille Moussette
  • Week 3: Tellart Worshop w/ Matt Cottam
  • Week 4: Multitouch Applications w/ Ru Zarin
  • Week 5: Processing Workshop w/ Karsten Schmidt
